Description
Exxon Co. (Humble Oil & Refining Co.) is steadily expanding facilities in the Jay Field in the Florida Panhandle to separate and treat oil and gas produced by the growing number of wells it and others are drilling in the area. Completion of all the construction depicted here will expand Humble's daily producing capacity in the field to more than 26,000 barrels of crude oil, 26 million cubic feet of natural gas and 170 tons of sulphur. The separation and treatment facilities remove hydrogen sulphide from oil and gas and convert it into elemental sulphur. Humble had originally projected a 50-well program for developing the field in Florida's Santa Rosa County. Now, however, executives of the company anticipate drilling of at least 70 wells in the field which Humble discovered in June, 1970. The discovery gave Florida its first oil production from the Smackover formation. Humble Pipe Line Co. is constructing a 65-mile pipeline from the field to a terminal north of Mobile, Alabama, to move the oil to markets. The 16-inch pipeline has a capacity of 110,000 barrels a day.
