Caption: Stage director JAY POUHE wanted to move forward the setting of the opera, based on the Shakespeare play, from its traditional 11th-Century Scottish setting. So he set it in a fictitious preseat-day eastern European country he calls Scotia and drew on characters involved in recent world events to strengthen the connection be-tween the opera and our own time.
