Caption: President NIXON was all thumbs when he tried to pin a Distinguished Service Medal on Gen. Alexander Haig Jr., his deputy adviser on national security affairs. Defense Secretary Meivin Laird was among those enjoying the seene as the President stooped to retrieve the medal (below). "I'm going to get this thing on if it takes all day," Mr Nixon cracked. He did at last and said to Haig: "I finally got it on. Dont't move!".
