Description
Caption: Metallurgist Richard Hamemrstein explains operation of new acid waste reaction tank at Nelson Chemical Co. Outdoor vat is 40 feet long, eight feet wide and eight feet deep. A 25-horsepower motor above the vat drives an agitator that churns the chromic acid waste. A chlorine solution is added to neutralize the mixture. Wire fencing on top of vat is a safety feature. 'It isn't the sort of mixture a man would want to fall into," said company president Harold Nelso.
