Caption: COMMR. KING The oldest entrant in the single-handed non-stop race around the world, Commdr. Bill King (58), is reported off the coast of West Africa in his junk-rigged schooner, Galway Blazer II. Interviewed by radiotelephone from London, the World War II submarine skipper said, "Everything is going well, and this beautiful boat is performing perfectly. It has been raining very hard for most of the last two days. Just like home. But I have been able to catch some fresh water on the deck." He was almost through the Doldrums and hoped to be in the strong southeast trade wind by the weekend. Then he will sail hard westward down the western side of the Atlantic to the Roaring Forties before turning east for the long Houl to Cape Horn Picture shows: Commdr.
