Description
Caption: NEW YORK: This artist's impression shows a communications satellite (top) in orbit 22,300 miles above the earth. The satellite, in a new design proposed by RCA, would perform a key role as a relay station in a single, all-purpose satellite system providing world-wide telephone, radio, television telegraph and data services through two or three such space relays. The proposed satellite is 13 feet long, has fins bearing solar cells to generate power from sunlight and carries a dish-shaped antenna directed constantly toward the earth to collect signals.
