Caption: (NY28 - Apr. 28) EXPEDITION INTO SPACE -- These are the various layers of the earth's atmosphere through which Vanguard II, the United States' fourth satellite, would pass before going into orbit after tonight's launching at Cape Canaveral, Florida. The satellite launching rocket is designed to put the sphere into orbit at an altitude of 300 miles. This satellite is designed to gather ultraviolet information in addition to the data carried by Vanguard I. (APWirephoto Drawing ) (see wire stories) (22305ar) 1958.
