Caption: "Triple-Purpose" Satellite for India INSAT-1, built by Ford Aerospace & Communications Corporation for the Government of India, is the first operational satellite to combine telecommunications, T.V. broadcast and meterorological services. Ford Aerospace accomplished this unique achievement by means of innovative technical solutions, involvingadvanced materials, propoulsion and energy management. INSAT-1A was launched on a Delta rocket. INSAT-1B will be launched on the Shuttle in 1983.
