Caption: Mary Kaczmar Charney, co-founder of the Ukrainian National Temple and St. John?s Ukrainian Church, both in Detroit, celebrated her 100th birthday Sunday with special services at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Ukrainian Catholic Church in Dearborn Heights. ?She used to go from door to door, encouraging people to go to church,? remembered Emily Zaporozhetz, a family friend. ?She is one of our real pioneers.? Mrs. Charney is still energetic and alert, Zaporozhetz said.
