Jones, the new chief executive officer of Independence Bank of Detroit, is a Philadelphia banker who came to Detroit to aid Independence, a struggling bank which is this year celebrating its 20th anniversary. Independence was once the only black owned bank in the Detroit area; now, through, there are two others, which may contribute to increased competition for business in the niche in which independence is operating.
