JONESAll eyes on main man But the man pulling the strings on both those deals was Roger Smith, who observed last Wednesday: "With EDS and Hughes, we've got the basic building blocks we need to go forward." Smith-watchers already have a pretty good notion of how the GM boss intends to deploy Hughes' massive technological resources, given the brief, but so far productive honeymoon between EDS and GM. Smith didn't waste any time in deploying the EDS computer wizards and number-crunchers on several of his pet projects, including the massive reorganization of GM's North American auto operations and the plan-Courtney Jones.
