Caption: Joan and Ted Kennedy: Her insecurity and emotional problems were a factor in his decision not to run in ?76.It was recently disclosed that Joan Kennedy, wife of Sen. Edward Kennedy and least known of the Kennedy women, had been in a private psychiatric hospital in Connecticut for treatment of mental strain and physical fatigue.The senator?s office confirmed her hospitalization and said that Mrs. Kennedy had been under the continuous strain because of the illness of her 12-year-old son, Edward jr., whose leg was amputated after it was discovered he was suffering from bone cancer.
