1975 Press Photo Desperado Sailboat Mike Fisher Race

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Caption: The sailboat Desperado was built in Traverse City, Michigan. Bob Andrews and partner Mike Fisher had the two-ton, meticulously-designed and constructed racing yacht built. Other sailors didn't think much of the boat, which came in nearly last in every race. After a disastrous performance in the North American Two-Ton Championship, in which the custom-made spinnaker was rarely raised because it was too much during the heavy winds that dominated the races, the two gave up on the ship.
