1993 Press Photo Tom Nelson, trap, salamanders, catch

Caption: To capture salamanders, Tom Nelson places cage like traps in wet areas and covers them with leaves. This prevents light from entering if there is a full moon because the creatures won't enter lighted areas. The next night he returns and takes out the newly caught amphibians. Sometimes there are as many as 50 in one trap. They are places in a bucket after coming out of the trap.
