1945 Press Photo Rubber Industry Tire Wheel Beads Steel

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Caption: Rubber Industry Tire MakingBeads are the parts of tires which contact the rims and resist the stresses and strains seekingto pull the tire off the wheel. The beads are made of steel wire of high tensile strength. These wires are passed through a die where compounded rubber is forced between and around the wires for insulation. In this photograph, the bead wire is automatically fed to the bead-building machine from huge spools.
