Caption: Plowing a straight furrow has been the mark of a good man for many thousands of years. Near tiny Blytheswood, Ont., the best plowmen of Canada and the United States started competing Tuesday to see who can turn the straightest and cleanest. It?s the first time the big contest ever has been held in this area. The four days of plowing will bring 40,000 visitors daily to Blytheswood (pop., 700). Farmers in the area have given plowmen permission to take over 1,600 acres of farmland during the contest. More than $25,000 in prize money will be awarded. Most plowing is by tractor but a handful of plowmen are still competing in the ancient manner ? with a plow drawn by beasts.Awkward implement is bolted together by Don Feick, hobbyist.
