Description
Caption: Father Joseph Karacleqicz proved to be a man of class. "This was a very emotional issue, and almost inevitably anyone you talked to about it became personally resentful about someone, whether it was Roger Smith and General Motors or Coleman Young, but Father Joe was able to make his stand and take a position on the whole thing without it becoming personal. He made his politics known, but he didn't parade his position around. I think there would naturally be a tendency on a lot of people's part after hearing about this iron priest of Poletown, who became the symbol of the resistance to tearing down the church, to think about him as someone more concerned about politics than fulfilling his duty as a priest. That couldn't be further from the truth.".
