1981 Press Photo Barbara Sokol protest archdiocese

Description
Caption: Barbara Sokol's house stood amid the muddy tracks of demolition equipment, an outpost of what once was. Barbara Sokol fought the change not only in her neighborhood, but downtown too, as part of a protest in front of Detroit Archdiocese headquarters on Washington Blvd. The archdiocese was one of a very diverse group of Institutions, from the UAW to the Reagan administration, that decided, in essence, that Detroit needed a big new auto plant more than a small old neighborhood.
