1974 Press Photo Petroglyph Reese Michigan Saginaw

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Caption: Great Stone Face -- The petroglyph above was found by a school girl in newly excavated soil in the small town of Reese, Michigan, on the Saginaw-Tuscola County line. It was brought to the Department by a teacher in the Reese school, Myles Willard. Though found some distance from the Sanilac Petroglyphs, the stone shows marked resemblance to those found along the Cass River. The face is carved in sandstone and covers an area of approximately four inches.
