Caption: I did not rush out to see "Platoon." I debated, and at one point decided not to see it and to let the past fade away. As time passed, I couldn't resist, as it was my former unit, the 25th Infantry Division, also known as "Tropic Lightning." Stone has done a masterful job in capturing the frustrations, atmosphere, language and, most of all, the waste of the Nam conflict. The only relevant items missing: the intense heat and the unforgettable smells of napalm and decomposing bodies, a smell that any Nam veteran will never forget. It would be my sincere hope that our leaders on Capitol Hill sit down and view "Platoon," in hopes that we never allow another Nam to occur. -Carl G. Lundgren, Woodhaven Vietnam Veteran.
