Caption: President Johnson tonight made a personal appeal from the White House for a cease fire as a necessary ?first step? toward peace in the Middle East. The President made the appeal on television and radio and referred to the approval by the United Nations Security Council for a call for a cease-fire in the Israeli-Arab war. Johnson posed for this picture after his radio-television address. No photos were permitted during the address.
