Caption: By Brenda J. Gilchrist Free Press Staff Writer The Danish journalist had his assignment: Gather information from several countries and prepare a six-part radio series on trade unionism for the Danish Broadcasting System. His coverage would not be complete without a visit to the United States, more specifically Detroit, where "Solidarity Forever" is a theme song known by thousands of workers. Steen Johansen, of Copenhagen, had a few contacts from previous visits to the U.S., but he was traveling far for the story and wanted to talk to many people. Johansen knew the information in Detroit would be a substantial part of his series, and the International Visitors Council of Metropolitan Detroit knew where to find the people he wanted to talk to.
