Description
Caption: Paul G. Sifton (right), an interpretative historian with the National Park Service points to a heretofore unidentified painting which he says is the earliest of portraits of Thomas Jefferson, chief architect of the Declaration of Independence and third president of the United States. Sifton identifies, along with three others of five, which have been in archives of the Pennsylvania Historical society. Close up of the Jefferson portrait is at upper left while the painting Jefferson familiar to all schoolboys is at lower left.
