1974 Press Photo Maynard Jackson Atlanta Mayor kidnap

Caption: Atlanta, GA, Feb 23, 1974--Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson stands under an umbrella outside the home of Meg Murphy, editor of the Atlanta Constitution. Murphy was kidnapped Wednesday night and is being held for $700,000 ransom. Jackson, who cut short a trip to New York, visited Mrs. Murphy Thursday night. he said she "is calm and strong and very hopeful." A short while later a tape was received by the newspaper demanding the ransom.
