The Veteran Kansas educator was called " a dust-boul Mencken" during the year as a grant professor he was just completed the tittle for his biting criticisms of the American system of higher education. They are the same views he has been presenting at the University of Kansas for many years. After 42 years of teaching, Ise has the air of a Kindly kansan and a tongue of sarcasm. He thinks American universities have deteriorated in the past 50 years, with their addition of more and more trade schools and courses in everything from salesmanship to contract.
