Caption: JOHN C. LODGE, elder statesman of Detroit, puffs on a cigar--lighted by Mayor van Atwerp on Lodge's 88th birthday. The venerable leader of Detroit's civic affairs for 51 years was mayor in 1927. He was elected to Common Council 10 times. Now in retirement, Lodge resides at 1533 Cadillac.
