1976 Press Photo Hoffa Missing IRS Son James Taxes

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Caption: James P. Hoffa confirmed Thursday that the Internal Revenue Service billed his father, the missing James R. Hoffa, for nearly $580,000 in additional taxes in a claim mailed five months after the elder Hoffa disappeared. The IRS claimed that the former Teamsters Union president underpaid the income tax on the $1.7 million lump-sum payment to Hoffa from the union pension fund in 1971. Young Hoffa said the family has retained a St. Louis tax-law firm to fight the claim.
