Caption: It was then that he discovered the beauty of his family business. The prodigal ?nephew? returned to the family fold in November 1975. He started working in the PR Department and then spent five years in London taking an active part in the development of the British market.Since 1984, Cognac is his base and his home a charming house surrounded by 90 hectares of vineyard that has been owned by the family since 1930s. Here he makes the wine that is sold to Hennessey for cognac production. ?It?s just not practical to try and make my own label,? says Maurice. ?Cognac is better aged in quantities. I regret not keeping a barrel of 2000 vintage, but it?s better being taken care of by the company than stored on my own vineyard.?Asked about his earliest memories of cognac he said, ?As a child my parents were very strict and I was either 22 or 23 years old before I enjoyed my first cognac. Today Hennessey is now longer owned by my family and is part of the luxury products group Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessey. It?s not so important today for a member of the family to be involved in the company, but I am pleased that my involvement gives a link to our heritage.?.
