Caption: Richard Headlee was a 1982 GOP gubernatorial nominee. Headlee had been told last month that he might have only six months to live without a new heart. He was hospitalized for congestive heart failure August 31 while he and his wife were visiting two of their children. He became a candidate for a heart transplant on September 4.
