Description
CAPTION: Nothing could be more appropriate at a block party than two things common to nearly every neighborhood- trash cans and bicycles. Only at Sunday's party these two neighborhood staples could hardly be recognized. Youthful ingenuity transformed lowly trash cans into things of beauty (above). Holding their masterpieces are (from left) Lynnette Mullins, 11; Susan, Parke, 10; Lynn Simoncini, 12; Tom Samson, 13, and Laura Vintevoghel, 8. The winner- a space-age can (left) proudly displaced by co-creator Paul Vintevoghel, 15. As for the bicycle, what better way to dress it up than to add a few streamers, a pretty parasol and a charming four-year-old named Melissa Vazzano (right). Melissa and her customized tricycle took second-place honors in a bike-decorating contest..

Photo is dated 8/8/1977 and measures 8.25 x 10 inches.
