CAPTION: Specialist Four Ronald Rext, left, and Specialist Four Donald Sherman pitch their tent in a wooded area of Fort Bonning, Georgia. The are members of Company D, 156th Signal Battalion, Michigan Army National Guard. Members of the Monroe company and other line companies from Detroit, Adrian, and (?) are spending four days and nights in the field each week as part of the final phase of their advanced unit training. Lieutenant Governor T. John Lesinski headed a party of Mayors and news media representatives in a visit to the January 28 - 30, 1962. The battalion was called to active federal service last October..
