"I have to lose the 50 pounds I put on the last five years," says NBC's two-time "Today" boss. "Friedman's first "Today" stint lasted almost either years, until 1987. After launching Grant Tinker's ill-fated "USA Today on TV" he returned to NBC in May '90 to run "NBC Nightly News" and moved to "Today" three years later under the new NBC news chief Andy Lack.
