Description
Caption: Joseph A. Beirne - AutomationWashington, Oct. 25 - Talks of Job Losses - Joseph A. Beirne, president of the Communications Workers of America, today tells congressmen employment in the telephone industry is declining as a result of increased use of automatic equipment. In testimony before a Senate-House economic subcommittee he predicted a drop of 200,000 jobs in the industry by 1965 unless a "tremendous business increase" offsets the effects of automation.
