Caption: A line of riflemen fires through the haze. Muzzle loaders salute Civil War with a bang. The Civil War era returned to life at Greenfield Village Sunday as more than 4,000 sharpshooters and other participants helped recreate 19th Century sights and sounds during the Muzzle Loaders' Festival. The weekend festival featured parades, assembly and inspection of military units, Indian and frontier costume judging, Civil War campsites, and rifle and cannon shooting competitions. Also on the agenda was an all-woman shooting demonstration. Visitors watched Gatling gun demonstrations, gunsmithing, knife making, horn and ivory carving, bullet molding and miniature soldier carving. In addition to the muzzle loading shooting contest, which drew contestants from as far away as New York and Maryland, four military bands, each adopting the dress and music of the 19th Century, entertained festival visitors.
