Caption: PUT INDIANS IN FIRST PLACE—Cleveland Indians players Al Smith (left) and Pitcher Bob Lemon were the stars in defeating the New York Yankees here tonight. Smith hit a homer in the nineth inning to break a 2-2 tie and Lemon allowed only three hits. The win for the Indians put them in first place in the American League.
