Caption: For Some, the War is Over -- Nguyen Van Thieu, then south Vietnam's president, shakes hands with a departing U.S. Infantryman of the 9th Divisions 3rd Batallion, 60th Infantry at Saigon's Tan Son Nhut Airport July 8, 1969. The soldiers, wearing leis and carrying gifts received from the South Vietnamese during farewell ceremonies, were the first of 25,00 men then-President Nixon had announced would be pulled out of South Vietnam by the end of August.
