Caption: Mary V. Beck, and her portrait, which will hang in city council chambers in Detroit, City Council Wednesday honored Mary V. Beck who was the first woman elected to the council 30 years ago. The council, in a resolution, proclaimed Feb. 29 as Mary Beck Day, and unveiled a painting of the former council woman. The painting will hang is refurbished council chambers.
