Caption: Bud Goodman also died last week, at his Grosse Pointe home. He was 79..and a newspaperman whose career dated to the years before I was born.In 1987, I wrote that Goodman had been part of another time. He had done things, met people and seen places the rest of us could only dream of. He watched history being made, then wrote about it.If I and my colleagues were impressed with his stories, we also were depressed because it looked like we had come to newspapering at least one generation too late.When he came to the Free Press in 1952, Bud Goodman already had worked on newspapers in Philadelphia, Buffalo, Baltimore, New York, Honolulu and Washing, D.C.In 1934, he covered the trial of Bruno Richard Hauptmann for the murder of Charles Lindbergh Jr. That same year, he covered the deaths of 134 people when the steamer Morro Castle burned off Asbury Park, NJ.When he was 17, he shipped out on a boat called the..
