Caption: The harmonica is a wonderful instrument. It costs a few dollars and you can learn to play a tune in a few minutes if your ear is good and you remember to inhale and not just blow.It goes anywhere, fits in a pocket, a purse, a briefcase, a knapsack or a glove compartment, and when it wears out you simply buy another one. Try doing that with your Bosendorfer piano. No wonder the mouth harp has its fans, as well as its own organization - the Society for the Preservation and Advancement of the Harmonica, or SPAH, SPAH, by the way, is the sound you make after you've been playing the harmonica for an hour or two.The annual SPAH convention, which began Wednesday, ends tonight at the Hilton Airport Inn, in Romulus. It features formal and informal concerts, demonstrations, workshops, harmonicas of various shapes and sizes and good old harmonicizing by the swimming pool. The public is welcome at all convention activities.Martin F.
