Caption: This experimental Ground Effect Machine(GEM), tested by General Motors Research Laboratories Engineering Development Department, skims over land and water at a 4-inch altitude with driver. Fore and aft fans driven by 15-horsepower engines produce a continuous sheet of air from an annular jet around the bottom of the vehicle.
