Caption: A native of San Francisco, Dr. Robert Gordon Sproul was graduated from the University of California, which he now heads, in 1913. He was appointed university vice president in 1925 while also holding his appointment as comptroller. He was named president on July 1, 1930 at the age of 39 making him one of the youngest university presidents in the country.
