1972 Press Photo black-footed ferrets endangered rare

Caption: Washington, Jan. 3, 1972--A pair of rare and endangered black-footed ferrets peer from a prairie dog hole near White River, S.D., in this photograph released in Washington by the Interior Department. Efforts to save them have hit a serious stumbling block with the death of all of the females in captivity. Only two males remain in captivity.
