Caption: Firefighter Stanley Williams with Engine 21 looks out of a northwest Detroit, Michigan home at 6379 Desoto, west of Livernois. A baby died in the fire that apparently began when children played with matches. A grandmother and family friend removed a burning mattress and rescued the infant's brother, 4, and sister, 6; in the confusion, no one found Mary White, 6 months. Flames and smoke prevented them from reaching her later.
