Caption: CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- Robert Coles, the child psychiatrist, prolific author, and Harvard professor, a man who counts Anna Freud and William Carlos Williams among his mentors, is his mother's son. He's not blaming his late mother for anything. she was an inspiration. "My mother's way of dealing with some of Youthful rebelliousness was either to hand me a copy of "War and Peace," or tell me to go think of others." It never occurred to her to send me a psychiatrist. He has now read Tolstoy's hefty classic six time. And his latest book "Call to Service," about idealism as it's expressed in volunteer work, is a very personal testament that bears the imprint of his mother's exhortations.
