Smith, former Seattle newsman, has been hired as assistant athletic director at the University of Washington completing a university of mandate to add blacks to the sports administrative ranks. Smith, 40, Plainfield, N.J., is now press relations supervisor for American Telephone and Telegraph in New York City.
