Description
Caption: CONVICTION SET ASIDE--The murder conviction of Edgar Smith, who has been on death row for 14 years, was set aside Friday by a federal judge. Judge John Gibbons ruled that an unsigned confession used in Smith's trial was unconstitutional because it was coerced. Smith, 37, was imprisoned for the murder of 15-year-old Victoria Zielinski, a cheerleader whose body was found in a gravel pit in Mahwah, N.J.
