1986 Press Photo Robert Taylor unionist Spain fascism

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Caption: Bob Taylor, 71, of Bloomfield Township, a retired general manager of Mendelson Egg Co. in Detroit, was among the first Americans to head for Spain in 1936. He had been a "hot trade unionist" in Boston. "We knew it wasn't a fight for Spanish democracy, in and of itself," he says. "What we were really going for was to fight fascism, because Hitler and Mussolini were already involved in Spain.".
