1971 Press Photo Antique furniture Goddard Townsend

Caption: A block front, shell-carved antique desk dated 1765 and signed John Townsend, Rhode Island. Only three such slant-top desks of the Goddard Townsend School are known, and this is considered to be the finest and the only labeled example. The desk is owned by Mr. and Mrs. Stanley P. Sax of Birmingham and was loaned to the U.S. Department of State.
