Description
Muscle Shoals--Dr. Harvey Olem may be stealing some of Warren Beatty's thunder, or rather his shampoo. Beauty used his shampoo techniques on the hair of lovely ladies. However, the attention of Dr. Olem's techniques is much more bland. The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) environmental engineer is experimenting in his Chattanooga, Tennessee lab with a detergent to prevent acid drainage in coal piles. Clem's interest in the subject became the focus of his PhD research at Penn State in the mid-70'ss as he treated acid drainage with bacteria. Tracey Bell measures the pH of drainage from coal samples while Harvey Olem records the data. (Muscle Shoals, Alabama) (Photo taken in Tennessee Valley Authority lab at Chattanooga, Tennessee)

Photo measures 11 x 8.5 inches. Photo is dated 11-23-1981.
