ROBERT HUGHES is the writer and presenter of "THE SHOCK OF THE NEW", public television's critically praised eight-part exploration of modern art. The series, which airs Sundays at 8:00 p.m. (ET)" on PBS, examines and evaluates the torrent of innovative and often troubled art that has been produced in the last 100 years, and is made possible by a grant from EXXON, with additional funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. Here Hughes is shown with a prime example of Modernism, George Braque's "Artist and Model" (1939) in the Norton Simon Museum of Pasadena. THE SHOCK OF THE NEW is presented on PBS by South Carolina ETV and is a BBC-TV production in association with Time-Life Television and RM Productions.
